Tax Senior

Job Description:
The Tax Senior’s focus is on perfecting his/her skills and
knowledge base in tax accounting while actively assisting less experienced
staff in their development. The Tax Senior prepares more difficult
business and individual returns, tax planning engagements, tax research
projects and consulting projects. In addition, the Tax Senior takes
the time to train and develop the technical skills of staff. As
a Tax Senior gains more experience and proficiency, he or she is
given more responsibilities and more difficult tasks, which could
involve some of the duties and responsibilities of a manager.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Apply the knowledge obtained through previous work experience
as a Tax Staff accountant and complete work assignments given,
including preparing complex individual and business tax returns
and reviewing less complex tax returns prepared by staff
- Perform technical research in situations requiring judgment
and formulation of alternatives
- Acknowledge requests from clients, outside parties, and internal
personnel and effectively communicate due dates, responsibilities
and next steps
- Become a key client contact for small engagements and develop
and practice entrepreneurial skills
- Recognize appropriate circumstances in which the firm’s
service capabilities can be offered to clients
- Establish performance, efficiency and quality standards for
tax staff on specific assignments
- Assist in developing tax staff by delegating work, supervising
their activities and providing timely and complete evaluations
and counseling
- Assist with formal training programs
- Maintain university contacts and participate in on-campus and
office visits to recruit new staff
- Build productive relationships with managers, senior managers
and partners by keeping them informed about work progress and
by adapting to various management styles
- Participate in local business and community organizations to
expand marketing network
- Maintain existing business contacts and seek new contacts
- Maintain confidentiality at all times
Required Experience:
- 2-4 years experience in public accounting, demonstrating a
proven progression in tax return complexity, scope and research
- CPA license preferred or actively working towards obtaining
CPA license
- Understanding and application of fundamental principles of
tax law
- Strong research and organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal skills
Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field; MBT
preferred
